Today, in 1892, in Bloemfontein, South Africa, the father of modern fantasy was born.
J.R.R Tolkien needs no introduction. His work on making Middle Earth was influential, and honestly speaking I would not be the nerd I am today if it wasn’t for his work.
Most folks on the wider internet chose to do a toast to the man with a strong drink. I’m not much of a drinker, but I do smoke a pipe, just like he did. And I just so happened to have his favourite tobacco on hand.
So, Happy Birthday Professor. May your memory last until the ending of time.
Hear Hear.
What was his favourite tabacco out of interest?
Cheers,
Pete.

His actual favourite may be lost to time, as no one can ask him now!
But Christopher Tolkien claims his favourite was Capstan Original Navy Flake, or Capstan Blue as its often called now. A mellow, pleasant smoke, with a sweetness to it.
He also smoked Three Nuns.

Pretty interesting stuff. He once said that every morning was another 24 hours for him to pipe smoke, so he clearly loved it.
